Ian Henderson, founder of The Pink Elephant, is the provider of fabulous platters. An events organiser and caterer, yes, but more of a table artist really. His ‘grazing tables’ are like an art installation, using food as the medium. They look too good to eat, but testimonies from many happy clients assure future customers that they taste every bit as good as they look.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Ian has travelled the world, spending time in Colombia and Mexico before settling at a job in finance in the City. Two years ago he decided to develop his passion – hosting events with fabulously presented food – as a business.
His platters and safari boxes for parties and picnics bring the warmth and colour of the tropics to your table. He chose ‘The Pink Elephant’ because, as an African, elephants are his favourite animal and pink is his favourite colour. Every display is finished off with a gerbera flower.
The creative platters combine the classic elements of an artistic cheese board with Mediterranean fare: a mix of sweet and savoury that might include Spanish charcuterie and homemade cheese straws.
Many’s the child who ‘doesn’t like vegetables’ who to their parents’ amazement has tucked into a glorious, colourful display and happily eaten plants. Typically a children’s menu might include freshly squeezed juices, brioches, cup cakes, a pot of mixed berries, a yoghurt and some biscuits.
His specialities are brunches, his signature ‘safari’ platter and the afternoon Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, enjoyed by hen parties, weddings and children’s parties alike. Over the summer his picnic boxes have been popular. Now he’s turning to his first Christmas at which people are hosting real live events.

Ian is offering 10% off any of his Festive Safari boxes and Festive Platters booked and delivered before the 20 December 2021. The Festive Safari Boxes come in three sizes: small (up to four people), medium (up to eight people) and large (up to 12 people). Platters come in small (up to 20 people), medium (up to 30 people) and large (up to 40 people).

Ian takes care to source products which support small businesses locally. His salami is from Milan and his chorizo from Spain, but his baking is done by Nikk’s Bakery in Chiswick High Rd, who provide mini cup cakes, fruit scones, croissants and birthday cakes. They also provide freshly squeezed juices.
Hush Hush, based at Park Royal, supply The Pink Elephant with filo pastries.
Offering three sizes that comfortably serve 20, 30 and 40 people, the platters cost £275, £385, and £495 respectively. He needs a couple of hours to dress up your ‘Safari’ selection and is happy to deliver. The Safari Box option serving up to four, eight or 12 people cost £65, £105 and £165 respectively.
