Acton Lane roadworks add to traffic restrictions in Chiswick

Action Lane partially closed for five days

Planned roadworks on Acton Lane look set to exacerbate traffic congestion in Chiswick, already affected by lane restrictions on the A4.

Electricity company Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) are planning to dig up the road from Saturday 20 August to Tuesday 24 August.

Signs notifying motorists and residents of the planned work have been put up near Chiswick Park tube station.

Information submitted to roadworks.org says the location of the work will be close to the junction of Acton Lane and Chiswick High Road near the entrance to Sainsbury’s and that road closures will be required, but does not make it clear whether this will be in both directions.

In the past utility works at this location have led to severe traffic disruption around Chiswick. This time the start date coincides with a bus strike and a national rail strike, which will disrupt London Overground and London Underground services on Saturday 20 August.

Tube services will also be impacted by the effects of the strike on London Overground on Friday 19 August.

SSEN apologises for disruption

A spokesperson for SSEN said:

“SSEN is carrying out works on Acton Lane from 20 to 24 August as part of an essential connection for a customer.

“All such works, which require traffic management to enable safe working procedures, have to be approved by the local authority and carried out on the dates permitted by them.

“SSEN apologises for any inconvenience this temporary traffic management may cause and would like to reassure its customers that, as a considerate constructor, all works are designed to cause the minimum of disruption.”
