Overall winners

This is the winning photograph in the 2025 Bedford Park Festival Photography competition. Richard Sainsbury told The Chiswick Calendar the cats were at his home in St Albans Avenue. His own cat is on the floor with the interloper, a regular visitor, lording it over her in the sink above.

The exhibition of all the photographs has been on show in St Michael & All Angels Church  over the past week. Professional Fine Art photographer Julia Fullerton-Batten chose the overall winner, with a runner-up and third place award, and members of the public voted for the winners in each of the eight subject categories.

This year’s entries were “really exceptional”, said Julia. “The quality was fantastic.”

Julia chose the winners from more than 100 entries. She said: “Straight away I felt this was the winner. It’s funny, quirky and has been captured really beautifully”.

Julia’s second choice, by Jane Mumby, felt “very painterly”, she said. “I would like to see it printed very large on a wall. It’s a classic landscape but the fallen tree and the dramatic background, the way the rain is coming in, the soft lines make it look as if the background has been painted”.

Julia’s third choice, by Simon Ratigan, “is a story we see every day, the glasses on the wall by the river, but I love the way the story is being told and the way the light picks up the glasses against the darkness”.

All three winners were awarded with vouchers for printing and framing from Snappy Snaps Chiswick.
