An inspiring choice of British cheeses at Chiswick Cheese Market

The Chiswick Cheese Market, held every third Sunday of the month in Old Market Place outside George IV pub in the middle of Chiswick High Rd, has recently added cheese tasings in The Crown  to their offering. Have a taste and then nip across the road to the market to buy some from the stallholder. Abigail Pitcher, one of the Market organisers, gives us a run down of what’s on offer at the October market.

After the success of our inaugural cheese talk and tasting at the September market we have persuaded the erudite James Grant, cheesemonger extraordinaire and stallholder at the market to showcase four British cheeses with pairings at The Crown on Chiswick High Road at 12.00 pm on Sunday (market day). You’ll be tasting:

• Teifi Heritage Gouda with apple syrup
• Stichelton and port
• Backmount Pyramid Goats with Sauvignon Blanc
• Old Roan Wensleydale with a slice of fruit cake

As well as hosting the tutored tasting, James will also have Stichelton, Teifi Heritage, Old Roan Wensleydale and Blackmount Pyramid on his No. 2 Pound Street Stall.

We welcome Stephanie from Kentish Town Jams and Dee from Deelicious Chilli Jams who are bringing their preserve accompaniments for your cheeseboard, sandwiches or toasties.

Palace Culture will be back with their full range of cashew nut made vegan cheeses – and they are thrilled to have been awarded two stars from the Great Taste Awards for their Kimcheeze – it is delicious!

New to us last month and back again is Cheese on the Wey – we really enjoyed Millie and Blue Millie cheeses last time – all made with raw cow’s milk in Farnham, Surrey.

We love Heritage Cheeses – they always have a fantastic selection of British artisan cheeses – this month they tell us that Beauvale – that’s a gorgonzola style blue from Cropwell Bishop and Great Taste three star winner – is just perfect for eating now – don’t miss out.

Emilia Bianca Mora will have a 32 month aged Parmesan as well as Italian charcuterie and whole salamis. Ewa’s brother who has been sharing her stall space to show his intense balsamic vinegars will this month be taking a stall of his own and adding some rapeseed oils which make perfect dressings for your salads.

Ealing Relish are bringing Christmas chutney! And gift packs – early present shopping anyone?

Also back are Bath Cheese, Dispensamor, Cradocs, Drunk Cheese, The Olive Bar, La Latteria, Roi with Trethowan Bros cheeses, Rooms and Roots, Batch Farm, Godminster, Big Wheel and the French Comté with a lot more VACHERIN!

Finally, if you’re a fan of Renegade Monk then make sure you come along on Sunday because cheese legends – owners and makers – Penny and Marcus – will be here so if you want to know more about their incredible award-winning cheeses that defy the rules, you need to be in Cheesewick on Sunday!
