Artists Stay Home – Annette O’Sullivan

Artists At Home has been a feature of life in Chiswick for decades now. The annual Open Studios by artists in Chiswick, Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Bush over a long weekend in June is something many of us look forward to.

This year the artists will be ‘Staying Home’ as opposed to ‘At Home’, meaning they will not be welcoming visitors over the threshold, but they will be selling their work online instead. The Chiswick Calendar is featuring some of the work of the artists taking part this year over the next few weeks.

Today’s featured artist is Annette O’Sullivan

Annette has been taking part in Artists At Home for many years and usually shows her work with painter Joanna Brendon and weaver Bobbie Kociejowski. I asked her how she’s been using her time during lockdown.

“Recently I have been concentrating on weaving my colourful glass bead necklaces” she says.

“Making them is quietly contemplative. The tactile ribbons and ropes have a satisfying weight and movement. I weave the tiny Japanese beads into bold blocks of colour and sometimes intricate patterns. A useful occupation for a creative hermit”.
