Bedford Park Festival Summer Exhibition

The Bedford Park Festival is a two week arts and community festival which takes place early in June. Every year there is an exhibition of art work for sale in St Michael & All Angels Church. The Summer Exhibition has been a feature of the Bedford Park Festival for decades.

An opportunity for local artists, children and adults, to show their work and sell it, the art on show incorporates a variety of styles by artists both amateur and professional.

The Bowyers are a famous family of artists who live locally. Francis Bowyer NEAC PPRWS works in watercolour, oil and mixed media. He is a member of the New English Art Club and a member and past President of the Royal Watercolour Society. He showed Nick Raikes around the exhibition in 2015, the year in which his father William Bowyer RA died. Both father and son had pictures in the exhibition that year.

30 years of the Summer Exhibition

Every year the Summer Exhibition has a unique and distinctive poster designed for that year’s show. On the 50th anniversary of the Bedford Park Festival the committee published this beautiful collection of 30 years’ worth of programmes for the Summer Exhibition.

Artists in Chiswick

Chiswick has a thriving artistic community, many of whom open their houses and studios during Artists At Home weekend in June, during the Bedford Park Festival fortnight.

The Chiswick Calendar also runs an annual art exhibition called Chiswick In Pictures – a much newer tradition – every autumn at the Clayton hotel Chiswick. As the name suggests, theses are representations of the Chiswick area by professional artists who live locally.  We also put on a photography exhibition in the spring called Chiswick Through the Camera Lens.

You can see the work of many of Chiswick’s artists on this website in our Artists Directory.
