Black Lives Matter protest in Chiswick

I can’t help feeling the police detailed to keep an eye on the Black Lives Matter protest in Chiswick got lucky on Sunday, compared with their colleagues in town, where far right protesters were attacking the police in Westminster and spitting on people having a picnic in Hyde Park.

While Black Lives Matter activist Patrick Hutchinson was making headlines all over the world by scooping up an injured white guy and carrying him to safety, in Chiswick police looked on as well behaved, socially distanced protesters spaced out along the pavement on the High Rd beside Turnham Green and yelled slightly disorganised chants.

Opposition seemed to be confined to one bloke who drove round Turnham Green twice to yell abuse, before driving off.

Thank you to Joanna Raikes for the photographs. See her guest blog on Black Lives Matter here.
