Brentford confirm signing of Jaidon Anthony from Burnley

Brentford have completed the permanent signing of forward Jaidon Anthony from Burnley for a reported fee of around £17m, potentially rising to £20m with add-ons, with the 26 year old putting pen to paper on a four year deal, with the club holding an option of a further year.

Brentford announced the deal as undisclosed, but it is widely reported to be worth an initial £17m, with a further £3m in add-ons. Burnley had been holding out for a figure closer to £20m following their relegation.

An established Premier League attacker, Anthony arrives having scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 70 English top flight games. Last season he played in all bar one of Burnley’s league fixtures, scoring eight times and contributing four assists, one of those goals a strike against Brentford at Turf Moor in February.

Where recent recruits like Jannik Schuster represent a bet on potential, Anthony is a different kind of signing: a ready-made top flight winger with three promotions and 70 Premier League games behind him, brought in to add to the group now rather than in a season’s time.

The forward said his mind was made up early, and that a conversation with head coach Keith Andrews settled it. ‘I like the way he speaks and the way he wants to play football,’ Anthony said. ‘From the first conversation we had, I knew I wanted to play here.’

‘It’s also the direction the club wants to go in as well. It’s obviously been a positive few years for Brentford and hopefully we can keep building on that. It’s an opportunity for me to step up and show my ability at this level.’

For Anthony, born in Hackney and away from the capital for much of his career, the move is also a homecoming. ‘I’ve been away from London for a long time, so it’s really nice and exciting that I can come home and be around my family and my friends,’ he said. ‘I’m sure that’ll help me settle in a lot quicker as well.’

He was direct about what he offers. ‘I’m a winger who likes to try and create chances and score goals, and try and be a positive impact on the team. Not just on the ball, I work really hard off the ball. I’m sure Brentford fans will see me working my socks off for them and trying to represent the badge in the best way possible.’

Andrews said the club had tracked Anthony for years. ‘We’ve been aware of Jaidon’s journey for a long, long time and have always admired him from afar,’ the head coach said. ‘He did really well last season, which is difficult in a team that got relegated. After meeting him, it became very evident that he’d fit into the culture of the club and add to the squad. He still has so much more room for growth and improvement, and we’re really looking forward to working with him.’

Anthony looks most likely to compete with Kevin Schade on the left flank, with the two wingers having posted near-identical numbers in 2025/26.
