Club ‘disappointed’ by abusive comments

Brentford Football Club have taken to social media to condemn abusive comments directed towards their women’s team on Sunday (9 October).

The Club Tweeted:

‘‘We are disappointed to learn of abusive comments on social media today directed towards our women’s team.

‘‘All at #BrentfordFC condemn all forms of online abuse and we encourage those who see any form of discriminatory behaviour linked to the Club online to report it immediately.’’

This comes following their win against Newhaven Ladies which saw them proceed to the second round of the League Cup.

Brentford FC also added that if any fans were identified they would be subject to Club sanctions.

‘The true L is all the out of shape keyboard warriors’

The rebuke came after a post by Brentford FC Women on Twitter. They posted a list of their B-team lineup next to a picture of a female player on the team.

Brentford FC Women removed the post after various men made misogynistic comments ridiculing the player for her build and appearance, mostly on a Twitter page named ‘British Women posting their Ls’ – L standing for loss.

Other Twitter users defended the player, with one saying:

“Why’s this an ‘L’? Her team won. The true L is all the out of shape keyboard warriors commenting on a woman who’s out there bettering her health playing sport.”

Supporters are being encouraged to report any incidents seen on social media that directly affect players, staff or supporters to report@brentfordfc.com.
