Traffic disruption on Acton Lane as Thames Water work to fix burst water main

Thames Water is excavating the water main which burst on Acton Lane on Tuesday evening (14 July). A notice at the roadworks says they expect the work to continue until Sunday 26 July.

The burst main is on the junction of Clovelly Road and Acton Lane, just outside the Alisha Pharmacy.

The water company say they are making ‘good progress’ with the repair and expect to have it finished by Monday or Tuesday of next week:

‘although this remains subject to site conditions and may change if we encounter any unforeseen issues during the work’.

Once the repair on the pipe is complete, they will begin restoring the road and footpaths. This phase of the work is expected to take several days, and they say they are aiming to reopen the road by Sunday.

The burst pipe disrupted the water supply to a large area of west London, in W3, W4 and W12.

Engineers worked overnight to stop the flooding, to find and isolate the pipe and restore the water flow before the morning rush, but Thames Water said customers would experience low pressure or no water for a while after they rerouted the water while the network recovered.

Acton Lane remained closed on Wednesday while they carried out the emergency work.

Thames Water says motorists can expect traffic disruption, but the ongoing work has not affected the E3 bus route.

‘Traffic management and road closures will remain in place while repair and reinstatement works are carried out to ensure the safety of our teams and everyone travelling through the area.

‘We know these works are causing disruption, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for your continued patience while we complete the repair and safely restore the area as quickly as possible’.
