Canadian folk band The Fugitives come to Chiswick on their UK tour

Promoting the latest of seven albums and reconnecting with family

The Canadian roots / folk band The Fugitives are playing in Chiswick in July.

The band, who have local connections, were formed in 2005 and have released seven albums. They have been nominated for a JUNO (Canadian Grammy), as well as seven Canadian Folk Music Awards, including Best Vocal Group, Best Ensemble, and Best Songwriter.

Having toured heavily across Canada, the UK, and the EU for two decades, they’ve been awarded the Best Folk Album of the Year by the German Music Critics’ Association, performed at Glastonbury, and many major folk festivals across Canada and Europe.

Their appearance at the Boston Room of George IV on Wednesday 8 July has been engineered by local residents Keith Richards and Andrew Chipchase.

Singer-songwriter Adrian Glynn, who with fellow singer-songwriter Brendan McLeod form the core of the band, is the nephew of Andrew’s late wife Sandy, and has spent time living in Chiswick with Andrew’s family.

Keith, a Chiswick Calendar contributor, author and occasional music promoter, decided that Chiswick and the George IV was the right place for the band’s London gig of their UK tour:

“There is the emotional connection between Adrian’s family and Chiswick but selfishly I just want to hear their powerful and engaging music being played in the perfect venue for them.”

The Fugitives are bringing their brand new self-titled album to the UK for a two-week tour. Adrian and Brendan will be joined by Marlene Ginader on violin and Britain’s own Dan Walsh on banjo.

“They would not really want to be called Americana but if you like that music form you will enjoy The Fugitives”, says Keith.

“For me though, it is more than the music, there is laughter and poetry, there is melody and occasional foot stomping and hollering.
