Celebrating 75th anniversary of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe at the Bedford Park Festival

Narnia comes to the Bedford Park Festival!

The organisers of Green Days, which kicks of the Bedford Park Festival – a fortnight of community and arts festival events – on Saturday 8 June, always try and find an interesting theme for the children’s fancy dress parade.

This year they have been gifted with the 75th anniversary of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Whether it is the Disney version of Narnia or the original books by CS Lewis that children are familiar with, they will find plenty of scope for dressing up – lions, fauns, queens…

Narnia and its most memorable characters will be highlighted not only in the Festival’s Fancy Dress competition and Children’s Corner on Green Days, but in a Treasure Hunt in Turnham Green Terrace, a Young Artists Competition, and two Kids Club screenings at The Chiswick Cinema of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

“In partnership with the Chiswick Book Festival, children and parents will also be encouraged to read the Narnia books that inspired the film and the new stage production” says Torin Douglas, Director of The Chiswick Book Festival.

C.S. Lewis wrote seven novels that together form The Chronicles of Narnia. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was first published in 1950 and over 85 million copies have been sold in 60 languages, making it one of the top ten best-selling books of all time.

The series introduces children to the magical kingdom where “it’s always winter but never Christmas”.

The two-day Green Days Fete & Craft Fair (Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June) will feature the usual array of bands, refreshments and stalls, supported by many local companies.

Profits will support St Michael & All Angels Church, which runs the Festival as part of its mission of community outreach, and its three 2024 charities: The Upper Room, helping the needy in Shepherd’s Bush; Swinfen Telemedicine, which links specialist medical expertise to doctors and nurses in remote regions of the world; and Crosslight Chiswick, which provides face-to-face debt advice, together with money education and budgeting support to individuals and families in need.

Other Festival partners supporting the Narnia activities include Trotters, Orchard House School, Chiswick Arts & Crafts, Young St Michael’s and the Young Veterinary Partnership.
