Chiswick Cameras moves to Teddington – at least temporarily

As Chiswick Cameras lease ends and the shop moves to Teddington, owner Andy Sands is “still hoping to find somewhere else in Chiswick”

The owner of Chiswick Cameras, Andy Sands, has announced the businesses is moving to Teddington.

His lease at 4 Chiswick Terrace has come to an end and he has to move out by 18 September. The shop will close on Thursday 10 September and Andy and his colleagues will move to Teddington Photographic, 17 Broad St, Teddington TW11 8QZ.

The Chiswick Cameras name, email address and phone number will remain the same.

“I am going to be in Chiswick quite a bit, so I can still arrange pick ups and drop offs. I can still meet people and deliver things here”.

At the moment he considers the move temporary, as he has arranged to rent premises in Teddington until the end of March, which he says are half the rent and half the rates of Chiswick.

“I might still find other premises in Chiswick”, he told The Chiswick Calendar, “but it is so expensive; I looked at a place in Devonshire Road that was half the size of the shop I have now and they wanted £29,000 a year for a ten year lease”.

The business rates were £12,000 a year.

“It’s ridiculous, just crazy. It has just become unaffordable”.

Andy has been in Chiswick more than 20 years and has built a reputation for excellence at Chiswick Cameras. Not only does he sell camera equipment but he offers his advice for free and Saturday mornings have become almost an unofficial camera club, with people popping in to ask his opinion.

Andy is a very well respected wildlife photographer, whose pictures are seen in books, magazines and calendars. National Geographic devoted eight double pages  to his photographs in May 2023.

CGI of new dementia care home planned for the site

Shop to be replaced after more than 20 years by a new development providing specialist dementia care

Chiswick Terrace is being redeveloped as a dementia care home. Bathroom shop CP Hart is moving out at the end of this week, and Chiswick Cameras will be the last to go.

The seven shops alongside the Old Pack horse pub will be demolished to make way for a six-storey specialist care facility with 85 bedrooms above a 172 square metre retail unit at ground and basement level.
