Welcome to a lovely autumn Chiswick Cheese Market

Guest blog by Lucy Cufflin

Old friends are back with some favourites at the Chiswick Cheese Market on Sunday 16 October, but new stall holders this month include the exciting ‘Wood and leg smokery’ bringing us some of their very exciting smoked goodies including their fabulous smoked mozzarella and cheddar.

To complement your cheese board what about adding some of their smoked pork loin, pancetta, beef topside or even cooking up a tartiflette with their beautiful smoked garlic?

If that does not sound exciting enough we are joined by www.braycured.com – a mouth-watering array of award winning charcuterie – if you haven’t heard yet, there are some British charcuterie producers who would give the Continentals a run for their money any day of the week and these guys are one of them – all hand cured, all British meat, all Heritage breeds.

Last month some of my highlights were Flower Marie made by Golden Cross cheese and sold by @bigwheelcheese and a St felicien from @thefrenchcomte which was about as perfect as it gets. Then I tried a new cheese for me – a harder cheese soaked in Red beer from drunkcheese.co.uk – the hoppy flavour was stunning and for beer and cheese lovers I suggest you definitely give this a go!

I bought an exceptional smoked fatty bacon from Dispensamor that added a lovely richness to a Bolognese and I’m looking forward to Paul’s beetroot kraut from lovefermented.co.uk because it has all those autumn flavours I’m looking forward to now the weather has changed

Kin boards are back with us and I will find it hard to resist buying an early Xmas pressie.

We’re hoping The Haloumi Press might have her hot halloumi sandwiches on offer and if it is a cheese toastie ‘par excellence’ you are after then pop round the corner to Tamp coffee on Devonshire Road for ‘the toastie’ as they are calling it- you will not be disappointed!

And that is just a few suggestions but I know that I will be tempted by much much more on Sunday –

Also joining us are

Daly Bread , Kentish Town Jams , Cradocs crackers, Somerset Cheese Co, Cheese on the wey, no.2 Pound street, Paulo’s Honey, Bath soft cheese, The Olive bar, The bread Lady, Room and roots, Roi cheddar and Caerphilly, Palace culture, Nutknowle Farm, Marlow cheese, Heritage cheese, Gastronomica, Ealing relish, Emilia’s red cow parmesan, Balsamic vinegar and Bradgate Woodwork

And more …..

*Christmas gift alert* ……..

Angus D Burditt is joining us on Market HQ with his utterly mouth-watering book A Portrait of British Cheese. It is one of the most beautiful cheese books I have ever seen, packed full of extraordinary photography bringing artisan cheese making in the UK to life on every page.

Angus wanted to celebrate the excellence of cheese in The British Isles by exploring the cheese of 30 artisan cheesemakers to explain the connection between landscape, the farm and the farming and cheese making methods.

A fascinating, informative and utterly delicious page turner – this is the perfect gift for any cheese lover. Don’t miss the chance to chat to Angus and he will have signed copies available to buy.

What are you doing on 24 October?

Want to do something really exciting? Want to know more about cheese? Want to know how to tell a good cheese even before you buy? Want to understand what makes a great cheese?

Then you need to become an ‘Associate’ of The Cheese Academy. I am teaming up with James Grant from No 2 Pound Street to present our 1-day intensive first level cheese qualification – its packed with knowledge but it’s fun and there’slots and lots of cheese! A seriously jolly cheese course – Don’t miss this!
