Red wine and cheese has somewhat slipped out of favour with cheese-pairing Gurus – fresh craft beers and fruity chilled ciders becoming a go-to to pair with Cheddars. I happen to think that my chilled Prosecco is perfect with a little platter of parmesan shards as a summer Apero! So, bring on the summer cheeses pairings and let’s get stuck into some serious cheese eating in the sunshine!

@vinagogo will have a fabullus sparkling for you to try which will match just as well with a shard of the very best Parmesan in the world from Ewa @biancamora.

Artisan beers are at the market this month with @roundcornerbrewing – sample at the market and take some home to pair up with some of the bigger flavoured cheeses.

Local Mozzarella by la Latteria (@lalatteria) and tomatoes are obviously a summer classic and we welcome Isle of Wight Tomatoes (@IOWtomatoes) to our market this month. Roll up, Roll up and load up with some of the most beautiful tommies you’ll find anywhere!

Fresh figs are just appearing the shops and our recipe of the month is an old favourite from my book – Lucy’s Food (now available on line www.ckbk.com).

The recipe uses Camembert beautifully paired with fresh figs roasted on a simple to make base, but I have made it recently with Baron Bigod and Tunworth both British and available at the market – from Fay @bigwheelcheese and @londonsmokecure respectively. Try it as it makes a wonderful lunch but perfect for a summer picnic.

There are plenty of very sunny countries that have fantastic cheeses – think Tapas and fabulous Manchego – so welcome to @finer.things.deli who specialises in all things Spanish – come along and taste cheese, Jamon and pair it all up with authentic membrillo.

What am I going to put this fabulous cheese on? …… we are thrilled to welcome @happy_place_provisions with their handmade sourdough crackers – being a sourdough fan I just can’t wait!

And what am I going to put my fabulous cheese and crackers on?……. @generation_timber is joining us from Rutland bringing with them some stunning handcrafted wooden boards. I’ve got a birthday coming up – hint, hint friends and family – just beautiful pieces of wood to have in your home.

While we are talking pairing, one of my favourites is a good salty blue drizzled with honey – Paulo honey is back and match his award winning honeys with the best Roquefort in London from @thefrenchcomte or the delightful Pevensey blue or try one of the new Spanish blues on offer.

At The Chiswick Cheese Market we are really proud to have had a small hand in this next little piece of news …… following our Affineur tasting some months ago – remember? We had a two week old cheddar and one that was about seven months old plus the one we all know and love at well over a year; helping us all understand the art of the ‘Affineur’.

Well, the two young cheeses have proved very very popular in their own right and although the two week old is not quite ready for public launch, the brand spanking new seven month old Quicke’s Cheddar will be at our market for you to try….. and try it you must, because Mary Quicke has asked you (yes, you our lovely cheese market visitors) to name her new cheese…. Wow – what a thrill!

So come along to HQ and enter ‘name the Cheddar’. It is young, its I citrussy, it is light, it is fresh, it is zingy – full of meadows and springtime and just pure ‘outdoors’ but with that good punchy cheddar flavour that we love in Quicke’s cheeses.

Not only can you taste it but @heritagecheese will have it for sale so pair it up with some beer and sour dough crackers and I reckon you have a wonderful picnic ready to go.

Talking of food ready to go  – the utterly wonderful @grateandgrill will be busy with their griddle and melting cheeses and we welcome a new Mac’n’cheese stall @mac_junkies.
