Alaz – Modern Egyptian cuisine in the heart of Chiswick

Alaz Restaurant is London’s very first Modern Egyptian restaurant with a twist, says owner Sabrina Tolba.

Alaz means ‘more delicious’ in Arabic. The brand and restaurant colours are vibrant and young, inspired by Nubian culture in the south of Egypt. The decor is inviting, with its teal coloured walls mixed with mosaic floor tiling and Egyptian art displayed on the walls, all for sale, by renowned Egyptian artist Ahmed Dafrawy.

The menu has some of Egypt’s most iconic dishes and famous street food such as Koshari, a vegan dish, a mixture of rice lentils pasta, a zesty salsa sauce with fried onions and chickpeas and Hawawshi, grilled minced beef with onions and herbs in crispy folded pita bread.

Traditional drinks on offer include Karkadeh (Hibiscus tea), served cold and hot, and Karak, which is Egyptian prepared coffee with cardamon and saffron. These are staples in any Egyptian household. The food is lovingly crafted by a group of expert chefs, all with Egyptian roots and one of whom used to work in fine dining in Central London.

Alaz is open Monday-Thursday from 9am-5pm, Fridays & Saturday 9am-10pm, and Sundays 9am-9pm. Walk-ins and bookings both welcome.
