Psst – you’re not supposed to know yet …

Chiswick councillor Amy Croft is set to be the next Mayor of Hounslow.

The Labour councillor who represents Chiswick Riverside ward is the only Labour councillor in Chiswick. Council Leader Cllr Shantanu Rajawat told members of the Labour group on Hounslow Council at their AGM Amy had been chosen as mayor for 2025-26.

Amy is not allowed to talk about it until 27 May, when the nomination is expected to be confirmed by a vote of councillors at the annual meeting of the full council, but of course news travels, and the cat is out of the bag.

The role of mayor is a ceremonial one, which involves chairing council meetings and representing the borough at civic and community events, and as such is non-political. The current mayor, Karen Smith, has recently been to the opening of an art exhibition and the opening of a car showroom in Chiswick.

The last Chiswick councillor to hold the title was Cllr Paul Lynch, the former Conservative councillor for Riverside ward who served as Mayor from 2009 to 2010.

Amy was elected to Riverside ward in a closely fought election three years ago. She quickly became known and well liked in Chiswick, as a trustee of Chiswick Pier, canvassing and holding monthly surgeries in St Michael’s Centre, Elmwood Road on the first Saturday of every month (10am – 12pm).

She has also chaired Hounslow’s Licensing Committee and as a Cabinet Assistant she plays a central role in policy decisions, taking part in the Council’s monthly Cabinet meetings.

In her day job she is an academic director for quality and engagement at Anglia Ruskin University, where she is responsible for the academic quality of the degree programmes, making sure the courses meet the various requirements on them.
