Chiswick-based Lauren-Daisy Jones recognised with honour

The founder of Luminosity Glitter, Lauren-Daisy Jones from Chiswick, has been named as one of the UK’s most ‘inspirational and dynamic’ female entrepreneurs for her biodegradable glitter company.

Lauren-Daisy, who founded Luminosity Glitter in 2019, is being profiled alongside 100 female entrepreneurs from across the country, as part of the campaign to celebrate the multi-achievements of women running businesses in the UK today.

The f:Entrepreneur campaign was launched in 2017 to raise greater awareness of female business owners and their impact across the country, and help provide inspiration and role models to the wider small business community. Delivered by Small Business Britain – the leading champion of small businesses in the UK –  the campaign offers a host of events, training, and networking opportunities to boost skills, capability, and confidence.

Lauren-Daisy was singled out for raising awareness about the impact of micro-plastics in our oceans and educating consumers on the eco-friendly alternatives to traditional glitter available today.

Reality of micro-plastics in oceans ‘horrifying’, says Lauren

Luminosity Glitter is made primarily from eucalyptus cellulose and sourced from ‘responsibility managed’ plantations operating to the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification systems, a leading global alliance of national forest certification systems promoting sustainable forest management through independent third-party certification.

Lauren-Daisy started her business after watching a documentary on microplastics in our oceans. She told The Chiswick Calendar:

“It got me thinking (as I’m carnival and glitter obsessed) that glitter must be a micro plastic so that would mean once it vanishes down the drain or gets thrown away it works it’s way into our water systems and the reality was horrifying.

“That then lead me to research eco friendly alternatives and discovered that there is one manufacturer of genuine, tested and certified biodegradable glitter (BioGlitter) and they happen to be in the UK but were struggling to find sales outlets.

“After a lot of hard work and growing the business I was granted a licence to be an official stockist alongside a handful of companies in the country including Accessorize, Hobbycraft and WHSmith. ”

“Means the world to be recognised” says Lauren

On being featured in the #ialso100 lineup, Lauren-Daisy added:

“It means so much to recieve recognition for the mission I’m on, especially alongside such amazing inspirational women. It’s been an exciting start to 2023 and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store.”

Among the other women chosen are Abisola Aboh, founder of Full Bloom Beauty, which provides healthy and natural hair care products for all hair types with a special focus on afro-textured hair; Emma Robson, co-founder of Stort Valley Spirits, which offers a range of handmade artisan spirits for wholesale and retail; and Lisa Baskott, founder of 2nd Line of Defence, the UK’s first female-focused recruitment agency in the private security sector.

Both f:Entrepreneur and Small Business Britain were founded by Michelle Ovens CBE, who is also the director of Small Business Saturday UK. Michelle said:

“Congratulations to Lauren-Daisy from Luminosity Glitter, and each of the talented female entrepreneurs featured in this year’s #ialso100,”

“It is so vital that we recognise and celebrate the phenomenal contribution that women running businesses are making across the UK, and the far-reaching, positive impact they are having, not just on the economy, but on wider communities too. The last few years have been hugely challenging for small businesses, yet despite this female entrepreneurship continues to grow and flourish in the UK, and is very much at the heart of the UK’s recovery.”
