Nursery rated as ‘good’ in most recent report

A Chiswick nursery which was previously found by Ofsted to be putting the safety and well-being of children at “potential risk” has bounced back after being reassessed as ‘Good’.

In July, the Fairyland Nursery, 1 Barley Mow Passage, was visited by an Ofsted inspector, who found that the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes “Requires Improvement” whilst leadership and management was rated ‘Inadequate’.

At the most recent inspection this January there were none of the reservations that arose on the previous visit, indicating that management had taken on board suggestions for improvement.

‘Good’ is the second highest rating that can be achieved with ‘Outstanding’ being the highest.

The inspectors concluded that the children ‘are happy, safe and secure in this setting’ and settle easily when dropped off having formed secure attachments with key staff who know them well. Staff are described as ‘warm and positive’.

All staff now have first-aid certificates

The leaders and staff are described as “a diligent team and are determined to provide the best quality of care and education for children. They have worked tirelessly to make all necessary improvements in order to ensure that children are always well supervised and safe in this setting.”

The manager and staff were said to have a good understanding of child protection matters and were able to identify when a child may be at risk of harm and understand how to report concerns and allegations.

All staff now hold paediatric first-aid certificates and, unlike previously, a qualified first aider always accompanies the children when they go on trips outside.

The earlier inspection had found that there was a lack of consistent and effective supervision particularly at mealtimes which gave rise to a risk of choking and the staff-to-child ratio was too low.

Fairyland Nursery opens from 7.30am to 6.30pm, each weekday, throughout the year. The provider employs 11 members of staff to work with the children.
