Chiswick School marks ‘outstanding’ GCSE and vocational success

A third of students achieved the highest grades 7-9

Chiswick School celebrating this year’s GCSE and vocational results, which they say are:  ‘excellent – a reflection of the determination, talent, and resilience shown by our students, supported by the dedication of staff and the wider school community’.

This year many students secured the highest grades across a wide range of subjects, which the school says: ‘underline the school’s strong tradition of academic excellence, while also highlighting the personal growth and holistic development fostered within an inclusive and supportive environment’.

Of the 240 students, 32% of all grades awarded were at Grade 7–9. The school has established a strong reputation for excellence in both Science and the Arts, with exceptional results this year seeing one in four grades awarded at the very highest level, Grade 9, in Chemistry and Music.

This is reflected also in this year’s A Level results. The school’s Sixth Form continues to attract record numbers of students from across London, gaining recognition for its strong outcomes and track record of supporting students into Russell Group universities.

Headteacher, Laura Ellener, expressed her pride in the achievements of the students, remarking:

“These results reflect the perseverance, ambition, and maturity of our students, who have approached their studies with great commitment.

“I am equally proud of our remarkable staff, whose passion and dedication to delivering high-quality teaching has been pivotal in enabling such success. This is a collective achievement which the entire Chiswick School community should celebrate.”

Deputy Headteacher, Graham McNamara, added:

“This year, a record number of Chiswick students met the entry requirements for our Sixth Form, which has also celebrated excellent A Level and vocational results this summer.

“At Chiswick School, we are proud to create an environment where all students can flourish, not only through their academic achievements but also in developing into confident, responsible, and engaged young people. The success of our students is a true testament to this commitment.”

Students at Chiswick School were among 600,000 teenagers who have opened their GCSE and other Level 2 results today.

Nationally the GCSE pass rate has fallen very slightly from last year – 67.4% of all grades in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are at 4/C and above, compared with 67.6% last year.

Exam boards say the grades are still adjusting after the Covid fluctuations, which saw a sharp spike in grades in the period when they were based on teachers’ assessments only.

Since then the pass rate has been deliberately lowered to bring it back to the pre-2019 norm.

There has also been a very slight rise in the percentage of students achieving the highest grades, with grades marked at 7/A or above, rising from 21.8% to 21.9%, which means there is likely to be stiffer competition for places at sixth form colleges this year.
