Juice making fun on offer outside Chiswick Library from 1.00 – 3.00 pm on Saturday 5 September

Apple Day on Saturday 5 September offers the people of Chiswick the opportunity to help turn this year’s harvest into juice – a free and fun activity, with free fresh juice at the end of it.

Abundance London have been collecting Chiswick’s apples since its inception 15 years ago, involving schools in the harvesting and making sure surplus fruit does not go to waste.

From 1.00 pm – 3.00 pm, outside Chiswick Library, you can join in feeding the apple scratter. It smashes up the fruit before the pulp is added to the apple press. And don’t worry, no prior knowledge of an apple scratter will be required.

If you fancy having a go at using an apple press, as you might have done in the Middle Ages, and the scratter, which is state of the art, the juice making stand will be in action.

The last ten days of fruit collections will be saved for pressing so the juice making can commence.

As well as all that excitement, organisers Abundance London say there will be many other activities on offer to get stuck into. From apple bobbing to painting ‘insect pebbles’, there will be a lot on offer.

Prizes for the longest apple peel will be up for grabs – so start practising your peeling!

Handsewn lavender bags created by the Make and Mend team are back by popular demand.

The Mayor of Hounslow Councillor Ranjit Gill will be attending at at 2.00 pm to see everything Apple Day has to offer.

As Chiswick was built on orchards and the remnants still persist in individual gardens, we have prolific and diverse apple crops.
