Strand on the Green residents organised a Jubilee celebration which they wanted to be more than just a street party for residents, inviting anyone who enjoyed the riverside along by Kew Bridge.
The Steam Packet and the Bell & Crown did a brisk trade, with live music outside all day, Morris dancers, games for children and stalls including one from the RNLI and one from Hounslow Food Box, which the event was supporting.
Sadly no Fuller’s Suffolk Punches as one of them had gone lame and there was not a stand-in to be found at the last minute on the Jubilee weekend.
Dame Eileen Atkins, (Upstairs Downstairs, The House of Elliott as creator, Gosford Park, Cold Mountain as actor) a resident of Strand on the Green, announced the winners of the Limerick and Poetry competitions. The winning entries, alongside those of the photography competition, were on display in the windows of the Fuller’s offices, facing the river.
The afternoon was rounded off by a rowing race.
It was so successful they are even thinking about doing it again next summer …
