Christmas Carol services in Chiswick
What are the rules in Tier 3?
You can attend places of worship for a service. However, you must not mingle with anyone outside of your household or support bubble. Singing in churches by the congregation is not allowed. Only the church choir and soloists can sing indoors.
While large outdoor events (performances and shows) should not take place, with the exception of drive-in events in Tier 3, the Government has specifically exempted outdoor religious services. Outdoor singing has been permitted for places of worship in all tiers in England from 2nd December.
Guidance issued by the Government about how Christmas can be celebrated confirmed that indoor singing by both amateur and professional choirs will be permitted, and that congregations could sing carols outdoors, providing they are physically distanced.
The Church of England has also published an article giving tips to anyone planning to hold an outdoor carol service.
The maximum number of people present should take into account the area of the space and the requirement to maintain 2m social distancing at all times.
