Live music in Chiswick
There is lots of live music going on in Chiswick – lots of live music especially happening in the run up to Christmas, for which please see our What’s On / Music page. There you will find everything from Open Mic nights in pubs to rock bands, traditional Irish music and Jazz as well as classical concerts and carol services:
Chiswick has a rich variety of choirs and the churches especially put on a programme of classical music throughout the year, so there is a great deal of choice also if you are looking specifically for Christmas music.
They are also many community events where students from Chiswick School will be performing free concerts.

Christmas music 2024
Saturday 30 November – Rain, Steam and Speed
Who: West London Sinfonia
Where: St Michael and All Angels Church, Bath Rd, Chiswick, W4 1LW
When: 30 November at 7.30 pm
West London Sinfonia is an amateur orchestra with ambition and passion who perform a wide programme of music with a concentration on larger orchestral works from the 19th (especially late 19th) and early 20th centuries.

Rain, Steam and Speed features the work of Chiswick based composer Cecilia McDowall, inspired by Turner’s painting, Rain, Steam and Speed, The Great Western Railway (1844) which depicts a broad gauge engine steaming across Maidenhead Viaduct, one of Brunel’s greatest achievements.

Sunday 1 December – Advent Carol Service
Where: St Michael and All Angels Church, Bath Rd, Chiswick, W4 1LW
When: Sunday 1 December at 6.30pm
St Michael and All Angels Church Advent season begins with the Advent Carol Service at 6.30pm on Advent Sunday 3 December, a contemplative service of scripture, music and poetry to reflect on the coming of Christ.
Choral Mass takes place at 10am.
Sunday 1 December – Patrick Hemmerlé in concert

When: Sunday 1 December at 4pm
Patrick Hemmerlé is a French pianist based in England. He is active as a performer, teacher, recording artist, and is the artistic director of the Intimate Engagements series at Clare Hall, Cambridge. He has a wide repertoire that comprises many works by lesser-known composers, whom he likes to introduce in concert, alongside the music of major composers, creating programs of great originality.

Chiswick Voices, the senior choir of Chiswick School, will be leading the singing at the Carols By Candlelight service.
Saturday 7 December – Christmas Oratorio

Programme
A complete performance of Messiah Part One – the ‘Christmas’ part – which features the Coming and Birth of Christ, and the Peace and Joy He brought to the World, concluding with the famous Hallelujah chorus, which celebrates the triumph of God’s kingdom.

Mini- Messiah for children
At 5pm there will be a special mini-Messiah concert for families and children demonstrating the instruments of the orchestra and the voices of the choir and how they combine to produce Handel’s great music.
In addition to playing some of the music from Messiah, they’ll also explain a little about the performers on stage, tell you a bit about the piece, and there may even be a few other musical extracts they’ll recognise. This event offers a wonderful educational opportunity for children to experience live music and learn more about how an orchestra and choir function.
Sunday 8 December – Rogue Opera present A Christmas Spectacular

When: Sunday 8 December at 7.30pm
Rogue Opera, whose production of Bisset’s Carmen at George IV was a sellout success in the summer, will be back on Sunday 8 December with their Christmas show. Their ‘Christmas Spectacular’ is “not your normal carol sing-along,” Director Bronwen Stephens-Harding told The Chiswick Calendar.

It will be a mix of operatic numbers, carols and popular Christmas songs performed by professional opera singers with requisite props and costumes, and the opportunity to sing along with the carols.

Saturday 14 December – A Winter’s Day and Night
Who: Petros Singers
Where: St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith, W6 9BE
When: Saturday 14 December at 7pm
The leading chamber choir’s Christmas concert has two sparkling works by contemporary composers as its focus: Sarah Quartel’s cantata, A Winter Day, conjures up haunting and vivid images of a cold and crisp winter, and of swirling, dancing snowflakes; in contrast, Cecilia McDowall’s carol cycle, A Winter’s Night, combines several joyous songs to create a performance full of Christmas spirit.
This festive celebration will also include some favourite Christmas works, as well as the ever-popular audience carols for you to sing.

Christmas begins with the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at 6.30pm on Sunday 15 December at St Michael & All Angels Church. This candlelit service in traditional format mixes the familiar readings that tell the Christmas story with favourite carols and some fine music from the St Michael’s choir, rounded off by mince pies and mulled wine.
Monday 16 December – A Christmas Rose
