Council to look at traffic calming measures on Sutton Court Road after latest crash

Latest car crash on Sutton Court Road on the bend by Grove Park Railway Bridge

At least four crashes at the same spot in two and a half years

Hounslow’s new Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Chiswick Riverside councillor Amy Croft, has said she will talk to traffic officers about what can be done to stop speeding on the bend on Sutton Court Road beside Grove Park Bridge in Chiswick.

There was another crash there on Thursday; there have been at least four at the same spot in the past two and a half years.

Nobody was hurt in the latest crash but a resident who lives nearby reported it to their local councillor, asking:

“When is something going to be done to slow vehicles down on this stretch of road? So many speeding vehicles.”

He told The Chiswick Calendar there have been four crashes that he has seen himself since January 2024 – in January and July 2024, and in April last year, and there have been others seen by neighbours at other times when he was not there.

Drivers take the bend too fast. In one instance two were racing. In another, in July 2024, a silver Prius with an Uber licence in the window crashed into a parked red Range Rover and ended up on the other side of the road.

‘There was a very pungent smell of skunk emanating from the car and the next morning’, he told The Chiswick Calendar and there was ‘lots of skunk, grinder, large rizlas left in the gutter’.

After he reported the latest incident Amy said she would ask officers to look into the possibility of speed calming measures.
