Cycleway 9 opens on Chiswick High Rd

Cycleway 9 is now open for cyclists to use. Having reported faithfully that it would open on Friday 18 December, and then that it wouldn’t open till next year (both times based on information from Transport for London, who are after all in charge of building the thing), it opened on Monday 21 December.

I’m told there is some minor finishing work is still set to take place in the New Year to enable the traffic lights to adjust automatically in response to traffic conditions.

Cyclists now have their own traffic lights with little red and green cycles on them. Maybe it will take a little bit of time for all of them to catch on to the idea that you’re supposed to stop when the lights are red.

Although these seem to have had no trouble at all understanding the concept.
