“Dead, dying or dangerous” trees felled in Grove Park

Trees felled after independent survey pronounces them dead or dying

Hounslow Council has felled around ten trees in the Chiswick Riverside ward after an independent surveyor found they were “dead, dying, or dangerous”.

Residents have noticed the alarming number of trees being cut down and flagged to The Chiswick Calendar that an unusually high number of trees had been cut down recently, and tree beds have been covered with tarmac. Roads where trees have recently been cut down included Thames Road, Grove Park Terrace, Compton Crescent and Grove Park Gardens.

Cllr Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Spaces, told us:

“A survey of all street trees in the Chiswick Riverside ward was recently completed by an independent surveyor. They mostly recommended general pruning. However, some trees in the Grove Park area were sadly flagged as dead, dying or dangerous. The surveyor listed fungus, bark wounds, vehicle damage and imbalanced crown as some of the causes.”

New trees to be planted in November

According to Cllr Shaheen, trees in Hounslow are surveyed every three years and the Council’s arboricultural steward keeps a check on them occasionally in between.

He added:

“We value all our street trees and those removed will be replaced in the next planting season, which begins in November.”
