December 2020 books
What’s new and good to read this month? Annakarin Klerfalk has a look at what’s on offer and chooses three good reads for December. The Last Resort, Heading Over The Hill and The Open House are all out in December.
Readers know Susi Holliday from her bestsellers Violet and The Lingering and she has written seven novels, five of them as SJI Holliday. Susi coaches new crime writers via crimefictioncoach.com
The Last Resort

The Last Resort is set on a private island with no means to escape. The expenses were paid for and Amelia couldn’t resist, even if she would be surrounded by strangers.
Each of the seven guests is forced to wear a memory-tracking device that reveals their deep, dark secrets and tension escalate until the group comes to blows. The island becomes a time-bomb and Amelia faces two great challenges; her own secret and her own fight for survival.
Louise Beech, bestselling author of I Am Dust, said: “What a trip! I love how Holliday writes, unafraid to mix genres. And this is no exception. Another ‘like nothing you’ve read’ thriller from one of my fave writers.”
The Last Resort is out on 1 December, published by Amazon.
Heading Over The Hill

Bestselling author Judy Leigh won me over with The Old Girl’s Network and I was delighted when I found out that her next novel, Heading Over The Hill, is out before Christmas.
Growing old doesn’t mean that you can’t have a great time, which Billy and Dawnie prove in this brilliant, heart-warming story.
The old couple move to Devon, as their children have grown up and started their own families, but the community by the sea doesn’t know what to make of their new neighbours. Dawnie really stands out with her wigs and colourful clothes and Billy’s Harley Davidson looks out of place, but as they all become friends they also realise that life should be lived to the fullest.
Fiona Gibson said: “Brimming with warmth, humour and a love of life… a wonderful escapade.”
Heading Over The Hill is published by Bolwood Books on 3 December.
The Open House

International bestselling author, Sam Carrington, is back with a thriller called The Open House and you might want to check if you have locked all your doors and windows before you start reading…
We meet Amber, who is desperately trying to sell their Devon family home as she and Nick are splitting up, but no one wants to buy it. Little does she know that someone doesn’t want the house to sell and is doing everything to prevent it. The estate agent suggests an open house day, which is a success, and thirteen people visit the house but only twelve of them leave.
Christine Stanton reviewed it as: “If you like creepy, unpredictable mysteries then stop everything and pick up this book!”
The Open House is published by Avon, an imprint of HarperCollins, on 10 December.
