‘Everything has led to this …’

Tickets have gone on sale for a special Q&A session with some of the cast and crew of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale – the very last of the franchise whose popularity has lasted through six TV series and two feature films so far – this is the third and very, very last and final hurrah.

After hosting King George V and Queen Mary at their stately home in the first film, Downton Abbey (2019) and becoming a film set for one of the early Hollywood talkies in the second, Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022), the third and final film sees Lady Mary at the centre of a public scandal.

Joely Richardson joins the cast for the latest film as Lady Petersfield, who in the trailer is seen telling Mary, at a ball in a stunning red dress, that she must leave, at once.

“I’m very sorry. I shouldn’t have come”, says Mary.

But why???

Now in the 1930s, the family is also facing financial trouble, and the household is threatened with social disgrace. As the new era of social change and uncertainty progresses, the Crawleys must embrace change, or risk losing everything they hold dear.

Many of the old cast are returning: above stairs Hugh Bonneville as Lord Grantham, Elizabeth McGovern as Cora Crawley, the Countess of Grantham, Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary, Laura Carmichael as Edith Pelham, Marchioness of Hexham, Allen Leech as Tom Branson, and Penelope Wilton as Lady Merton.

Downstairs returnees include:  Jim Carter as Mr Carson, Phyllis Logan as Mrs Hughes, Brendan Coyle as John Bates, Joanne Froggatt as Anna Bates, Lesley Nicol as Beryl Patmore, Sophie McShera as Daisy Parker, Kevin Doyle as Joseph Molesley, and Michael Fox as Andy Parker.

Also returning is Dominic West, who was introduced in the last film as Guy Dexter, a famous screen actor, and Robert James-Collier as Thomas Barrow, who left for America in his employ.
