Ealing Council approves plan for the next four years

Council Leader Cllr Peter Mason sets out Labour Council’s priorities

Ealing Council has approved its new four-year Council Plan.

The Labour-run authority has set out nine priorities, including tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, housing, climate change, children’s services, jobs, health and investment across the borough.

The plan was discussed at a full Borough Council meeting on Tuesday 30 June and afterwards Council leader Councillor Peter Mason said:

“The council plan is, most importantly, a promise to you, our residents. It sets out the things that we are trying to achieve. We are making a commitment that this is where we are focusing our efforts. And we want you to hold us to account for delivering it”.

Here are the nine promises:

• crackdown on crime and antisocial behaviour and tackle its root causes
• secure a safe and genuinely affordable home for every family and work to end homelessness and rough sleeping
• take decisive action to tackle the climate emergency and keep our streets clean and our roads clear
• ensure every child has the best start in life and tackle the barriers that hold young people back from fulfilling their dreams
• make our economy inclusive, bring down the cost of living and be ruthlessly efficient with taxpayers’ money
• bring good well-paid jobs back to our borough and breathe new life into our high streets
• strengthen pride in our neighbourhoods, providing identity and purpose in every community
• enable every person to live a healthy and happy life and end the unfair inequalities that hold too many people back
• deliver good sustainable growth for every town with investment in any communities that have been left behind.

“Over the last council plan we had an impressive record of delivery”, continued Cllr Mason.

“We continued to deliver ambitious numbers of new homes despite the collapse of the housing market across London. We delivered more on climate action over the last four years than in the borough’s history.

“We also delivered new parks and green spaces for everyone to enjoy. We want to continue that spirit of delivery in our new plan”.
