Southfield councillors to stand again in 2026
In a meeting on Thursday 19 June, Ealing’s Liberal Democrats announced their three Southfield councillors will stand again in the next local elections. The candidates have decades of experience in the area: Gary Malcolm has been a councillor for 23 years, Gary Busuttil for eight, and Andrew Steed for 12.
Councillor Gary Malcolm, Liberal Democrat Leader of the Opposition on Ealing Council, said:
“Liberal Democrats in Southfield are proud that we listen to residents and keep fighting for what they want to see in their area. It was great news recently when the Council agreed to install a crossing on Southfield Road to help reduce traffic speeds and road accidents.”
In the 2022 elections, each of the Liberal Democrat candidates received over 2,500 votes—almost double that of the Labour candidates. Ealing Liberal Democrats hope to increase its seven seats by focusing on local issues they believe Labour has neglected.
The Liberal Democrats have been particularly critical of the closure of children’s centres under the current council.
“Liberal Democrats across the borough are fighting to stop Labour’s Children’s centres closures,” Gary Malcolm added.
