Bat Walks – Syon Park

30 April - 24 September

Wander the park in the dark, find out about our mysterious bat friends and listen out for fly-by squeaks, using bat detectors.

On the last Tuesday of each month from April until September, gather at the Syon Park Visitor Centre at dusk with friends from the river and habitats charity, Thames Landscape Strategy, who will give a short talk about what type of bat activity to expect in the historic landscape.

So far, they’ve detected five different types of bat, but please be aware that bats don’t like the rain, so the walk won’t go ahead if it’s raining. The walk is approximately 90 minutes and it’s asked that you bring a torch.

Syon Park has many unique ecosystems from wetland to dry plains, woodland and gardens. It has been in the ownership of the Dukes of Northumberland since Tudor times and it is this historical continuity of land use and management which makes Syon so important. They have many species of fungi, some very rare, and over 60 species of lichen. The lakes and riverside, surrounded by ancient trees, provide a perfect habitat for bats.
