Café Conversations brings people together through coffee! Rather than staring at your own four walls, come to Avanti at Bedford Corner on Mondays, or the Café Grove on Wednesdays – or both! The idea is that people who don’t necessarily know each other can have the opportunity to have interesting, thought provoking conversations with people they might not normally meet. No need to pre-book, just turn up at the start of the session. Not suitable for children.
Café Conversations has been running since the beginning of October 2018 and is the brainchild of Louise Kaye, who had the bright idea while listening to a BBC Radio 4 programme about loneliness. Instead of there being intrusive personal questions or divisive subjects such as politics, the conversations are structured around a list of more neutral, wide ranging topics from which participants can choose a subject which they find interesting.
Volunteer ‘conversation starters’ guide the discussion. The sessions run for a couple of hours and there is no pressure to spend money in the cafes. Whether you want to volunteer and help organise the sessions or just take part, anyone is welcome. If you would like to volunteer as a ‘conversation starter’ please contact The Chiswick Calendar and we will pass on your details to Louise. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
