Children’s Book Festival 2021

Chiswick’s Children’s Book Festival is returning this year for a series of in person talks, performances and interactive classes.

A part of the wider Chiswick Book Festival, this event brings together top authors and their readers for a week of history, poetry, biography, creative writing, fiction, thrillers, gardens, food, wine, politics and children’s books.

Friday 10 September

Prize Giving – Young People’s Poetry Competition, followed by
Clare Balding: Fall Off, Get Back On, Keep Going

Writer and broadcaster Clare Balding will present the prizes for the Chiswick Book Festival’s Young People’s Poetry Competition, 2021.

Clare will then talk about her latest children’s book, Fall Off, Get Back On, Keep Going:
10 ways to be at the top of your game!, with illustrations by Jessica Holm.

Really Big Pants Theatre Company: Clare and Cory Share a (Glorious) Story
Join this acclaimed theatre company on their fifth appearance at the Chiswick Book Festival for a glorious story of sharing, exploring, and daring.

Storm Dragon: Dianne Hofmeyr

Animalympics: Josie Dom
Join Josie Dom in a fun activity to tie in with the sports theme of her Animalympics book, including warming up in the style of different animals.

Chitra Soundar – Nikhil and Jay
Listen to author Chitra Soundar tell a story from the Nikhil and Jay series of books, and join in a workshop to draw your family tree!

Zoe Antoniades: Cally & Jimmy writing workshop
Join Chiswick favourite Zoe Antoniades on a journey of story discovery, learning how to plot a tale, and plan a brand-new story during the session. For children aged 6-11.

Astrid Lindgren’s Pippi Longstocking: Storytelling by Danyah Miller
A playful and quirky one-woman storytelling performance with audience participation, to introduce children to ‘the strongest girl in the world’.

Frederick the Fox: Kim Ansell, Lisa Read
Fun with author Kim Ansell and illustrator Lisa Read in a creative reading and craft event based on their beautifully illustrated Frederick the Fox book.

Neal Zetter and Joshua Siegal: Performance poets
Join award winning children’s authors and poets Neal Zetter and Joshua Seigal (Welcome to My Crazy Life) for a joint hour of fun.

Rob Biddulph: Peanut Jones and the Illustrated City
Join Guinness World Record-breaking, award-winning and bestselling author/illustrator Rob Biddulph and hear about the first of his new series of books.
