Join writer, teacher and music enthusiast, Jeffrey Boakye, in conversation about his new book Musical Truth: A Musical History of Modern Black Britain in 28 Songs. A playlist/history book with a twist, Boakye introduces key moments in Black British history through the lens of modern music. Learn about the ground-breaking musicians whose songs have changed the world and discover key moments in the Black British narrative.

This in-conversation event will be followed by an audience Q&A.

About the speaker

Jeffrey Boakye is a writer, teacher and music enthusiast originally from Brixton, London. His books include Hold Tight and BlackListed. He is also the co-author of What is Masculinity? Why Does it Matter? And Other Big Questions. Jeffrey lives in East Yorkshire with his wife and two sons.

What’s Online is a series of talks and events delivered by The National Archives’ experts and special guests. Talks last approximately 30-40 minutes, followed by a 15 minute Q&A.
