Piano supremo Dom Pipkin has performed all over the world, both as a solo artist and with artists as diverse as David Byrne, Paloma Faith, and Morcheeba and as a regular performer in New Orleans including the prestigious “Piano Night” at the world-famous Jazz and Heritage Festival.
“I can’t hold a candle to this guy ……” says Jamie Cullum.
The Ikos are named after the New Orleans classic “Iko Iko”. Along with a two-year residency at Ronnie Scott’s club in London they have headlined festivals up and down the land. Their sets mine the music of Dr John, Lee Dorsey, Professor Longhair, the Meters and the whole catalogue of classic Louisiana R&B and funk, mixing the classics together with Pipkin’s own compelling song writing.
No stranger to George IV, for this special show Pipkin is joined by Ikos bass player Nick Pini, (Laura Marling, Tom Jones) and drummer Jimmy Norden, (Annie Lennox, Alice Russell) playing a highly infectious blend of jazz, blues, gospel and New Orleans street funk.
Paul Jones of BBC Radio 2’s Blues Show describes them as “Lighting up the British blues and R&B scene. Very, very, good indeed!”.
