Learn how to make a stunning embroidered strawberry in metal threads with designer Becky Hogg. Organised by the Williamk Morris Society.
Please note that this is an online class which takes place over two consecutive weeks: Friday 4 & 11 June 2021. The cost of the class does not include the Strawberry kit; once you have booked the class, please purchase the kit (cost £25 plus postage) directly from Becky Hogg here.
Strawberry Thief was first produced in 1883 and was inspired by William Morris’s observation of the thrushes creeping under the strawberry nets to steal the fruit in the garden of his Oxfordshire home, Kelmscott Manor. It remains one of his most popular designs today.
In this two session online hand embroidery workshop you will learn metal thread techniques including Couching, Cutwork loops and Pearl purl edges. The Strawberry is then finished off with 3D silk purl leaves in the blue of the original print. Once complete the embroidery can be cut out, backed and made into a decorative hanging or brooch measuring approximately 3.5×5.5cm.
Becky will also share examples of other styles of Metal thread embroidery and talk about her career in embroidery.
The two sessions will run through Zoom with live and pre recorded step by step demonstrations taking you through the project in manageable stages. In addition a WhatsApp group will be set up in order to share work in progress pictures and for Becky to give feedback.
To allow time for the kit to be posted bookings will close on Friday 30 April 2021.
