For over 100 years, the Doves Type lay at the bottom of the River Thames after T.J. Cobden-Sanderson discarded them off of Hammersmith Bridge to prevent Emery Walker from ever using them again.
In early 2020, local mudlark, Jason Sandy discovered some of the Doves Type and donated them to Emery Walker’s House. In this talk, Jason will tell the extraordinary story of the Doves Type and share some of his favourite mudlarking finds from the River Thames, spanning from prehistoric to modern times.
Some of these historically significant artefacts are on display in various museums in Britain. Each artefact gives us a unique glimpse into life in London throughout the ages. Jason Sandy is the author of Mudlarks: Treasures from the Thames and co-author of Thames Mudlarking: Searching for London’s Lost Treasures.
