Join the Victorian Short Story Reading Group to explore the golden age of the British short story ‘A Father in Zion’ by Caradoc Evans.
Continuing the exploration of regional short stories, take a look at A Father in Zion which is set in Wales. Caradoc Evans first began gathering stories from his own locality of Cardiganshire during the 1880s and 90s, which he later used as a base for a collection of short stories called My People from which this story is taken.
Although popular when first published, it was also vilified by many of his fellow Welsh nationals, as the stories reveal some deeply unflattering portraits of the inhabitants of the area. At each session there is a brief introduction to the work, followed by a group discussion in a relaxed atmosphere, with wine and nibbles supplied.
