Virtual Talk: Furniture and the Arts & Crafts Home

April 27 @ 6:00 pm BST

Furniture defined the character of Arts and Crafts interiors. Drawing largely on examples from the Victoria and Albert Museum’s collection, Max Donnelly will consider the philosophies that motivated designers, and the variety of contexts in which furniture was produced, from designer-makers to established cabinetmaking firms.

He will also look at how furniture was marketed and retailed, and some of the ways it was used and presented in homes at the turn of the twentieth century.

Max Donnelly is Curator of Nineteenth-Century Furniture at the V&A, where he is a member of the Curatorial Concept Team planning new international Nineteenth-Century Galleries. Max writes for journals including The Burlington Magazine and has lectured in the UK, Europe, North America and China. He is a member of the Decorative Arts Society Committee.

This is a live talk on Zoom.  You will be sent the online zoom link to join the talk via email one hour before it begins.
