Fire at Chris’s Fish Bar

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at Chris’s Fish Bar on Turnham Green Terrace on Monday morning (15 June).

Part of the ground floor of the building was damaged by the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade was called shortly before 11.00 am and the fire was under control in just over an hour. Fire crews from Chiswick, Acton, Hammersmith and Richmond fire stations were at the scene.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 11 calls from the public. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

“Full-on fire”

There was no damage from the fire to the neighbouring property, the Chiswick Beauty Lounge at number 21, or to Marmalade, the jewellery shop at 23. Simon Johnson, who is the leaseholder for both premises, told The Chiswick Calendar “We were lucky that these properties are pretty sturdily built and nothing came through”.

“It was a full on fire though” he said.

Simon and his wife and business partner Nadine will be opening their shop tomorrow (Tuesday 16 June) for the first time since the lockdown, accepting two customers at a time.
