Fire at Persian restaurant being treated as ‘deliberate’

The fire at the Persian restaurant in Chiswick High Rd which took place on Saturday 21 September is being treated by the Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade as ‘deliberate’.

A fire ripped through The Persian Room restaurant in Chiswick High Road, in the early hours of Saturday 21 September after residents reported hearing an explosion.

Six people who lived in flats above the restaurant were rescued, unharmed, by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. Fire crews from Chiswick, Hammersmith and Acton attended the fire in the basement of the property. A forensics team also arrived to do an inspection of the restaurant, which until recently was called Fanoos, to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

The whole front of the restaurant was blown out and as the pavement outside was cordoned off, furniture inside Fanoos on the ground floor could be seen covered in smoke.

London Fire Brigade said at the time of the explosion:

“Control Officers took the first of four calls regarding the fire at 0103 and mobilised crews from Chiswick, Acton and Hammersmith fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 0215

“Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a restaurant with dwellings above on Chiswick High Road in Chiswick. Part of the basement was destroyed by the fire. Around six people were led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. There are currently no reports of any injuries.”

They later told The Chiswick Calendar this incident had been recorded as ‘Deliberate’.
