Pat Davies is to receive the Freedom of the Borough this evening (Tuesday 12 November), at Chiswick Town Hall.
Pat, who is 96, received the Legion d’Honneur from the French ambassador in June for her war work intercepting and translating messages passed between German naval ships and passing those in code on to the code breaking team at Bletchley Park.
Freedom of the Borough is the highest honour that a Council can bestow, though it’s not much practical use. Instead of exempting her from council tax or giving her free parking, it allows her to march through the streets of Hounslow with her sword drawn and colours flying, and to herd her sheep across the bridges.
But it’s the thought that counts.
