Friday evenings in Chiswick mean one thing to hundreds of local families: Friday Night 5s. More than a football and netball league, it’s a weekly celebration of friendship, fair play and fun, bringing the community together at Rocks Lane Multi Sports Centre on Chiswick Common.

What began in 2009 with just four teams has grown into one of London’s most vibrant junior sports communities. Today, 264 teams and over 2,000 children pull on their kits every Friday after school, filling every 5-a-side pitch and netball court with energy, laughter and teamwork.

Built for Children, Powered by Friendship

Friday Night 5s is designed with children at its heart. Boys and girls of all abilities, across every school year, are encouraged to play with their friends, form their own teams and take real ownership of their sporting journey.

Teams choose their own names, design their own badges and even create custom kits through the Friday Night 5s online shop. It’s football and netball that truly belongs to the children — played with friends of a similar age, in an environment where everyone feels included and valued.

Real Leagues, Real Progress, Real Fun

Matches run for 40 minutes, with leagues operating during school term time. Each season lasts one term, with promotion and relegation adding excitement and motivation at every level.

At the end of each season, trophies are awarded not only for league winners and standout players, but also for Fair Play — because how the game is played matters just as much as the result. Referees assess every match, and a weekly Fair Play Award keeps respect and sportsmanship at the heart of Friday Night 5s.

Coaching That Builds Confidence

Teams are supported by dedicated Match Day Managers, offering in-game guidance and encouragement. Teams looking to develop further can book training with FA-qualified Rocks Lane coaches, either privately or through open sessions during the week.

Many teams enjoy the continuity of mid-week training and then putting new skills into action on Friday evenings — often with the same coach supporting them from the sidelines. It’s a powerful way for children to grow in confidence, develop skills and strengthen team bonds.

Technology That Empowers Young Players

Friday Night 5s embraces technology to enhance the experience. Through the league app, players can track fixtures, results, league tables, top scorers and Fair Play awards, giving them a real sense of ownership over their progress — and making Friday nights even more exciting.

A True Chiswick Community Hub

Friday Night 5s kicks off from 4pm for Reception teams, with matches running throughout the evening right up to Year 13. The atmosphere is electric, with parents, siblings and friends cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines.

Older teens gain valuable work experience as referees, while more experienced participants step up as Match Day Managers, creating a genuine sports development pathway. Alongside engaging, qualified Rocks Lane coaches, they ensure everything runs smoothly — rain or shine.

W4 Youth Community Friday Night 5s

The Friday Night 5s partnership at Southfield Recreation Ground is a collaboration between W4 Youth and Rocks Lane Sports Trust. Launched in October 2024, the league provides a friendly, welcoming space for local young people to play 5-a-side football, guided by the core Friday Night 5s values of friendship, fair play and fun.

The partnership aims to integrate West London youth through sport and provide safe, positive social spaces.

The Friday Night 5s community is strengthened by brilliant local sponsors who share its family-focused values:

• Orchard House School – A co-educational preparatory school (ages 3–11) in Chiswick, deeply rooted in the local community and a regular user of Rocks Lane facilities.

• Mathnasium of Chiswick – A women-owned educational hub on Chiswick High Road, supporting families across Chiswick, Hammersmith and Acton through learning, sport and community partnerships.

• Lil’ Nashville – A Southern-inspired honky-tonk bar and kitchen in Barley Mow Passage, run by local founders Helen and Rob Wood. With its welcoming “Nashville family” ethos, live music and family-friendly Sundays, it has quickly become a much-loved community space.
