Good pub grub from The Hound
Traditional crowd pleasing food, tried and tested in Fitzrovia and Chelsea
We went to eat at The Hound the other day – the new pub which has opened in the centre of Chiswick where The Crown used to be.
The owners have brought some of the traditional crowd pleasers over from their other London pubs – the George in Fitzrovia and The Cadogan Arms in Chelsea – for example their black pudding Scotch eggs, which were perhaps the best Scotch eggs I’ve ever had.
The Hound opened on 17 July and they are delighted with the response from Chiswickians keen to try out a new place to eat. They are also celebrating JKS Restaurants being listed in the Sunday Times Best 100 Places to Work UK.

The staff seemed happy, and so did the customers. I can personally vouch for the Scotch eggs, as mentioned, and the Chicken and Leek Pie – light, flaky pastry, juicy innards – just what you want from a pie really, and my colleage felt the same about his fish and chips – light, crispy batter, and tasty fish that fell off the fork. Couldn’t fault the sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream for dessert either.
It’s not rocket science really, but The Hound seems to have the formula right, choosing food that people know they will like and cooking it well. Executive Chef John Sparks works alongside Culinary Director James Knappett of two Michelin-star Kitchen Table in Fitzrovia to create a suitably diverse menu inspired by British pub classics.
Other alternatives on the menu for starters were the Heritage Tomato Salad, Grilled Red Prawns, Cauliflower & Onion Bhajis and Steak Tartare. Other main courses were Pea & Ticklemore Risotto, Flat Iron Steak, Tiger Prawn Thai Green Curry, and Highland Wagyu Hound Dog.
Other dessert options included a Raspberry, Mint & Lemon Eton Mess and the Seasonal Fruit Trifle.
