Gunnersbury Park invites community to sew its centenary picnic blanket

Gunnersbury Park and Museum is hosting a series of public sewing sessions this May, bringing volunteers together to stitch a picnic blanket ahead of its 100th birthday celebrations

The blanket has already taken shape: earlier this year the park invited the public to create individual fabric squares, with community groups and museum visitors producing 400 in total.

The sessions now underway will see those squares sewn together into a finished blanket, which will cover over 100 square metres and make its debut at a centenary fete on 25 May.

Sessions are taking place on 4, 5, 8 and 10 May.

They are open to all skill levels, and Gunnersbury will provide sewing machines, irons and cutting mats. Volunteers and staff will be on hand with instructions. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, with classic films playing in the background.

Each session runs for two hours. Tickets are available via visitgunnersbury.org.
