Heal’s reopens

Bargains at the ready! Monday 1 June Heal’s Chiswick Outlet store re-opened, along with the brand’s prestigious flagship on Tottenham Court Road, and its other shops in Westfield, Kingston, Brighton and West Yorkshire.

It’s a bit puzzling, as we’re being told continuously that all non-essential stores are due to start trading again on 15 June. Chief Executive Hamish Mansbridge explains:

“On 13 May the government added homewares to their list of essential services – I am very confident that we fall within that definition.”

Indeed, Furniture Village was already up and running (with a long exposition on why they are essential on their website), and Ikea is also now open, as is Decorexi, at 58 Chiswick High Road, which  opened on 27 May.

Heal’s in Chiswick, which arrived at the beginning of December, has up to 70 per cent off “cancelled, returned and overstocked pieces, including some customised with special fabrics and finishes.”

Expect sofas (including trendy velvet), sideboards, wardrobes, shelving, lighting, coffee tables, dining chairs and tables, bed linen and towels, tableware (including fine glass, china and cutlery) and mirrors.

Stock is changing all the while but we are promised for starters an Eton three-seater sofa: normally £2,949, now £1,239; a Prague dining table 180x90cm, normally £1,799, now £899; a Cross extending table, normally from £2,595, now £779; a pair of Byron chairs, normally £599, now: £299; and a pair of Hudson Chairs: normally £429, now: £171.

“Health and safety is an absolute priority,” adds store manager Nikki Loong. Only three customers will be allowed in at a time, so you may have to queue. There are hand-sanitising “stations” at the entrance and around the store. If you want to sit on something, you are provided with a clear plastic sheet. Returns go into “quarantine” for 72 hours.
