The Hogarth Club, members of The Chiswick Calendar Club scheme for several years now, have just reduced the joining fee for membership of the health club on Airedale Avenue in an exclusive deal for Chiswick Calendar Club Card holders.

Members benefit from free personal training sessions, a variety of fitness classes, racquet sports and the freedom to relax in the pool and spa.

The health club has a range of five different memberships to suit people who want to exercise at different times of the day and night, ranging from ‘Full’ membership, where you can pop in at any time from 6.00am till 11.00 pm during the week to use the facilities: gym equipment both indoors and outdoors, swimming pool, tennis courts … to ‘Compact’ membership, where you are limited to using the facilities between 12.00 and 4.00 pm.

Celebrating 40 years

The health club has just celebrated 40 years welcoming Chiswick residents and many of their members regard it as a home from home, a place to meet friends as well as to exercise. There’s a full social life to be had at the club, with social evenings and charity fundraising activities as well as classes, beauty treatments and your own personal workout regime.

Many of the people who came to the anniversary party on Saturday 30 October had been going to the club for years. It opened in 1981, a secluded two acres on Airedale Avenue, just 50 yards from Chiswick High Rd. surrounded by back gardens and there are still founder members who continue to use the facilities all these years later.

It has always been very much a family business, founded by architect and surveyor Colin White and passed on to his sons Patrick and Dan. Patrick was tragically killed in a swimming accident whilst in the Seychelles on a family holiday in August 2004. His father died in June 2019, aged 88. Dan White entered the construction industry in 1981 and established his own firm of building contractors in 1983. He now manages the Hogarth Group.

Innovating and adapting

Like most businesses, they have had to make huge changes over the past 18 months to adapt to the pandemic, but director Tim Slater says redevelopment and refurbishment is a continuous process at Hogarth.

While the physical shape of Hogarth has remained virtually unchanged since 1998, considerable investments have been made to the interior décor, new facilities, equipment in all areas of the Club and in technology to support and to develop the business to accommodate our members’ needs.

“Hogarth is unique, responsive and charming. It’s unconventional but with unsurpassed standards of excellence. Hogarth is an innovator, Industry leader and supporter of the community. It has been Chiswick’s favourite retreat for almost 40 years being a haven of peace and tranquillity where a warm, genial welcome awaits you.”

The Hogarth has an eclectic mix of events that run throughout the year. Club members and their guests enjoy sporting challenges, wine tasting, It’s a Knock Out, Gala Dinners, themed food nights, quizzes and more.

They are gearing up now for the ‘Reindeer run’ on Sunday 5 December, a 7.5km run around the two nearby Thames bridges. The annual charity fundraiser is raising money this year for Chiswick’s RNLI station.

The club is also holding a Christmas market on that Sunday, between 9.30 am and 2.00 pm.

Jewellery, scented candles, Christmas wreaths, cards, chocolate hampers, home-made jams and sauces, artworks, vegan body products and nutrition products from small local businesses will all be on sale in the heated outdoor pods at The Airedale Café and Bar, which is open to the public.

There will be mulled wine and mince pies on offer as well as roasted chestnuts & marshmallows to toast over the fire pit.
