Hogarth Youth Centre receives boost in funding from Dukes Meadows Trust

Continuing a long term partnership, supporting the local community

The Hogarth Youth & Community Centre, which offers activities after school during term times, is to receive a boost in funding from Dukes Meadows Trust. The Trust, which has worked with the youth centre for many years, has announced it is extending its partnership until the end of the current school year.

Their support allows young people to be accompanied from Cavendish Primary School to Hogarth Youth & Community Centre to take part in after school clubs.

The Trust runs the weekly Food Market and the play area on Dukes Meadows – open land beside the river, between Chiswick Bridge and Chiswick Pier. It is an award-winning charity, which transformed the area from one which had become a derelict dumpling ground into a beautiful riverside park.

Since 2000, it has raised over £1 million towards creating play areas, planting hedgerows and wildflower meadows and an orchard to increase the biodiversity of the park.

Cavendish School backs onto Dukes Meadows and children from the school have been involved with the activities of the Trust since its inception, helping plant the orchard and meadow and providing input for the design brief for the playground. A carved plaque in the playground bears the names of all the children who were involved.

Clare Frewer, Headteacher at Cavendish Primary School said:

“Our children benefit greatly from the fantastic offer from Hogarth Youth Club, funded by Dukes Meadows Trust. It is wonderful to see so many access a range of activities, including sport, and thoroughly enjoying their time there. We are very grateful to the club for offering this to our families.”

The Hogarth Youth & Community Centre’s Junior Club is a project for young people aged 8-11 years old that is open on Monday & Thursdays from 15.30 to 18.00, which offers a range of activities: sports and physical activities, arts and crafts, jewellery making, multimedia workshops, cooking and dance.

Kathleen Healey MBE, Director of Dukes Meadows Trust described the youth centre as “a local treasure”, praising its “fantastic facilities” and staff: “dedicated youth workers who are passionate about supporting children and young people.

“Dukes Meadows Trust’s aims are to improve and help maintain the park, but also to support the community living around it. Funding the youth club sessions at Hogarth is a great way to do that.”

Denny Anthony, Youth officer and Manager of the youth team at Hogarth Youth Centre said:

“Our project with the Dukes Meadows Trust and Cavendish has allowed young people to experience something new… We look forward to continuing this flourishing partnership with two fantastic organisations.”
