Horatio Nelson: Fever and Fire returns to the Tabard for five night run

Adam Preston’s one-man show about the naval hero returns to Chiswick after selling out in April, on the back of a Standing Ovation award nomination

Horatio Nelson: Fever and Fire, the one-man show about the naval hero written and performed by Adam Preston, returns to Theatre at the Tabard in Chiswick for five nights from Tuesday 8 September, following a sell-out run at the venue in April.

The play traces Nelson’s early years, the loss of his mother when he was nine and his position as an overlooked “middle child”, and explores how those experiences fed his drive for love and glory. It goes on to cover his early struggles, his battles at sea and his affair with Emma Hamilton.

The critically acclaimed show, boasts costumes by Dougie Hawkes, who won a Primetime Emmy in 2025 for his work on Bridgerton, and a soundscape by BBC sound designer Amanda Priestley.

Preston, who calls himself ‘a self-confessed Nelson obsessive’, said:

“The reaction to the shows at the Tabard in Chiswick was overwhelming. We’ve been nominated for a Standing Ovation award and the reviews were incredible”.

Harry Speirs, writing in London Pub Theatre Magazine, said the show ‘packs plenty of punch whilst maintaining a careful, clever control’ and called it ‘a masterful spectacle.’
